Ian joined the Pitch Advisory Service in 2021 as Regional Pitch Advisor for rugby union in the North, bringing over 39 years’ sports turf industry knowledge. 

His experience covers all aspect of grounds management and maintenance, from golf courses, including the Royal Liverpool Golf Links, to full football and rugby pitch renovations and construction. Having worked for businesses within the turf care sector and having lectured at leading sports education faculty Myerscough College, Ian uses his passion and deep understanding of sports turf management to help local grounds teams expand their knowledge and improve pitches. 

Ian holds masters’ degree MSc in sports surface technology from Cranfield University and enjoys sharing his knowledge with grounds staff and volunteers, helping them to learn new skills and giving them confidence in pitch maintenance.
